Proliferation of unilateral coercive measures during the last decade result in catastrophic humanitarian consequences in the targeted states as well as in third countries and even negatively impacting human rights in the sanctioning states. Moreover, unilateral sanctions are often imposed simultaneously by more than one country, with cumulative effects and wider implications for the targeted countries and their nationals. The impacted areas affect such basic needs of population as access to safe drinking water and sanitation, availability of basic medicines and vaccines, import of crops and, unfortunately, result in growing mortality rate, child wasting and undernourishment. Comprehensive and systematic monitoring and impact assessments is highly important for alleviation of adverse humanitarian effect of unilateral sanctions and overcompliance.
To ensure comprehensiveness of monitoring and assessment and provide for the possibility of verification, the Special Rapporteur invites all interlocutors to submit information about the humanitarian impact of unilateral sanctions and over-compliance via submission form.
